Welcome to the website for the Christchurch Borough Homewatch Association, looking after Homewatch and Neighbourhood Watch across the Christchurch area. We hope you find this website a useful source of information and support on all things Homewatch in Christchurch. But what is Homewatch?

Home Watch (larger schemes may be known as Neighbourhood Watch) was first introduced to Dorset in 1983 when the first Home Watch Scheme was set up.  Since then it has grown to such an extent that there are now 4,568 Co-ordinators across Dorset.

The objectives of the Homewatch Association for Christchurch Boro’ are simple:-

(a) To promote the reduction and opportunities for crime and anti social behaviour.

(b) To encourage a caring community spirit.

(c) To assist members in addressing specific problems in their area.

Christchurch Borough Homewatch is now one year old. We have a dedicated committee working to build and improve the Homewatch scheme in Christchurch, working closely with the police and other local partners. We now have over 1500 street contacts across Christchurch helping to keep an eye on their neighbourhoods.

Although Dorset is still one of the safest places in the country in which to live with one of the lowest crime rates in the country, Dorset Police are committed to reducing it even further, but it needs the support of the community.  Home Watch provides an important way for people to play their part in making Dorset Safer and making Dorset Feel Safer.

Home Watch has four main objectives:

1>>To Prevent Crime
…By improving security, increasing vigilance and protecting the most vulnerable members of the community by encouraging a caring community spirit.

2>>To help with the detection of criminals
…By promoting effective communication.

3>>To reduce the undue fear of crime
…By providing accurate information about risks, supporting victims, promoting a sense of security and a caring community.

4>>To improve Police – Community relations
…By fostering regular contact and liaison.
